The new Nearbites homepage: the best dishes near you

Our new homepage opens on dishes, not a list of restaurants: meals and restaurants near you, new dishes, curated food lists and top foodies, all with photos.

The new Nearbites homepage: Find the best dishes near you, a search box, quick links such as Near me, Ramen and Dumplings, and a row of meals near you

A picture speaks a thousand words, and when you're deciding what to eat, it's the dish you want to see. So our homepage no longer opens on a long grid of results. It opens on food: the best dishes near you, the restaurants that serve them, what's new on Nearbites, and the lists and food lovers worth following. Every row leads with a photo and a price.

Start with a search, or one tap

The search box sits right at the top. Type a dish, a restaurant or a suburb, choose Meals or Restaurants, and press Search. Not sure what you feel like? Tap Near me to see dishes around your current location, or one of the quick links: Ramen, Dumplings, Pizza, Brunch or Vegan.

Meals near you

The first row shows dishes from restaurants around you, each with its photo, price and distance. We pick one dish per restaurant where we can, so a single place can't fill the row. Tap the bookmark on any dish to save it to a list, or See all for every dish nearby.

Restaurants near you, with real dish photos

Next come restaurants close by, each shown with a photo of one of its own dishes, how far away it is, how many dishes it lists and whether it delivers. Only restaurants with photographed dishes appear here, because a restaurant you can't see is a restaurant you can't judge.

Restaurants near you on Nearbites: Ten One Ate, Istanbul Cafe Grill Bar, Ameer Tandoori, Mt Alexander Road Charcoal Chicken and Subway in Essendon, each with a dish photo, distance, dish count and delivery

New on Nearbites

Dishes recently added near you get their own row, with a New badge on anything from the last month. It's the quickest way to spot a new menu or a restaurant that's just joined.

Curated food lists and top foodies

Curated food lists are public lists made by diners on Nearbites, like a dumpling crawl or a list of brunch spots worth the queue, shown with photos of their dishes. Top foodies are the people saving the most dishes to their public lists this month. Tap Follow to see what they save in your food feed. Want to be on there? Make your lists public and start saving.

Further down you'll find our latest blog posts, then popular searches by meal, cuisine and location, for when you'd rather browse than type.

Made for your phone

On a phone, each row scrolls sideways, so you can flick through dishes with your thumb. The location button beside the search bar finds food near you in one tap.

How "near you" works

We use your rough location to fill the rows, so you see your own city without sharing anything. For dishes right around you, tap Near me or the location button, or search a suburb. Nearbites is starting with mostly Australian restaurants, and it's built for food lovers around the world.

What's next

We're adding Trending and Popular this week rows, based on the dishes people look at and save, and recommendations picked for you. In the meantime, try the new search and map, or head to nearbites.com to see what's near you.
